
MA-ASTA Master’s Chamber Music Competition
Ensembles of 2-6 string players (no piano) qualify to enter our Chamber Music Competition
Eligibility
The competition is open to chamber ensembles of three to six string players (any string instrument instrument - no keyboard instruments). For the purpose of this competition, chamber ensembles are defined as groups with one player to a part, performing without conductor.
Average age of the ensemble must be 25 years or younger.
Applicants must be a student in an institute of higher learning in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, or Connecticut. The applicant must either be a current ASTA member in good standing or a student of a current ASTA member in good standing in one of the aforementioned states. Proof of membership is required.
Requirements
The ensemble must prepare three contrasting works.
The ensemble must demonstrate the ability to perform an hour-long program. Auditions will be approximately 15-20 minutes in length.
All genres of music are welcome.

** Ensembles will be sent audition times once entry materials are received.
** Ensembles must be at the location and prepared to perform at the assigned audition time.
Prizes
Cash award of $100 per ensemble member.
Free one-year student membership in ASTA for each ensemble member.
Grand Prize Awarded at the discretion of the judges and with participating schools: The winning ensemble from either Senior or Junior Division will be required to give between 4-6 presentations in public schools in the Massachusetts/Rhode Island area during the remainder of the school year. Transportation and per diem of $50/player will be provided for each performance. Multiple performances on the same day will be $50 for the first performance and $25 for each subsequent performance. The ensemble will be provided with coaching in community outreach prior to the public school appearances.
FINAL ROUND - The winner of the Chamber Music Competition is invited to perform in the final round concert. They may play one work of the applicant's choice. This may be a single movement work, or a single movement from a larger work.
